Not sure if that title makes sense or not...,Single or multi point focusing for motocross/motorsport,i've been using single point,i've noticed on some of the close up shots, the whole shot isn't in focus ,which makes sense really .I'm just curious as to what others use .

As i understand it multipoint focuses on the nearest point. Therefore if you use multipoint for MX shots you may find the camera focuses on that single blade of grass that's sticking up 10ft away from you instead of the rider falling off his bike 15ft away from you!

If the whole shot isn't in focus, look at the DoF and try and improve that, presuming you hit your target with the desired focus point! The prob with MX is you need a fairly fast shutter speed and a decent DoF.

So by interpretation I assume you're saying that part of your subject is in focus. If that is the case then your problem is more likely to be a DoF issue rather then a focus issue in which case use a smaller aperture. I would agree with foodpoison though that Auto focus point selection is better when using AI Servo.

single point, usually tracking the rider's head

I would agree single point and pan with it - you can still use AI but you probably need a good DOF so don't try too large an apperture.

I use single point with Servo AF for motorsport shots. Using all the AF points tends to see the camera going after the grass, or a bird, or the sodding great bright red barrier behind whatever I'm trying to shoot.

Also a single point user here.
As has already been pointed out, it would seem like you're having DOF issues rather than focussing issues - try using aperture priority and stopping down to find something that works. I find that often helps me!

usually single focus point and servo when tracking a running dog etc
