Skating laws?

In Barcelona or Britain??

As far as I know here, it isn't illegal to skate on them, however if they were on private property then the owner could impose a 'no skateboarding' rule which would then have you classed as trespassing. Urbis in Manchester had this when it first opened, the gardens which were created were used by skaters and eventually people complained and it was banned...but seems to have been relaxed now.

Boarders get a really hard time of it in the UK it seems BUT if nothing has been posted on site to say 'no skating here' kind of thing then I'd just get on with doing what you do until someone with some authority tells you to stop. If they do tell you to stop, just move on and enjoy yourselves somewhere else. Life is too short IMP.

If you're around Stafford one day, let me know.

Have fun!

Being a BMXer, it usually takes about 30 seconds to get turfed from most good spots. Barcelona is great for Skating and Riding. The spanish police don't really give a sh@t what you do, aslong as you don't hurt anyone. Myself and some friends rode there for a week, and only got asked to move along once. Down by the harbour is great, and also there are some good spots up at the olympic village.

I suppose i'm lucky, as i started riding when i lived in Brum, and it was before they started giving everyone grief, and now living in Devon, it is not too bad, but we do get asked to move along from some of the more used spots pretty quickly. Most police over here don't waste there time, unless they are one of those stupid PCSO's:bat:, and even then, they just tell you to stop riding.

In situations like this you just have to go for it, and if they ask you to leave be polite, and plead ignorance, and walk away. If you are a reasonable person you should not get into any trouble, and if no one minds then you have a new spot to ride.

I'm not a BMXer, or a skater, but I ride fixed, around London... any one else?

AFAIA, there are no laws preventing you from riding rails, ledges, or watever you wish.

I can think of only one law which might bite you as a result of your fun - Criminal Damage. If you damage any painted or polished surface, which would entail re-finishing gets damaged, or a window or fixture get's broken, an awkward property owner might get antsy, and the police could get involved.

The police usually revert to breach of the peace/obstruction/public disorder charges, when they can't find anything else in their vast encyclopaedia of charges, so you should be aware that an officious bobby might consider one of these laws to stop/arrest you should things get out of hand.

all depends where abouts your skating etc. we get no problems in dumfries apart from some angry old ladys who hate all teenagers.
but if you were to venture to glasgow, london, manchester, milton keyns (cant spell)
there really quite strict. ive seen people floored by security guards on the run up to rails.

Dynamic Earth a major Edinburgh attraction when it opened had really attractive stone walls until the skateboarders arrived, mostly after it was closed, last time I seen it it was hideous edges worn away and discoloured. Vandalsim afaic. I mean how can you call sliding down a railing or or on the edge of a wall on a skateboard skateboarding or rollerskating .

I must confess I have no sympathy for these guys when they take a tumble off a railing and break a leg or whatever, my thought is usually "serves you right for being so stupid"

Haven't a clue what the law is in Barcelona.

But I do recall by St. Georges Hall in Liverpool a byelaw stating no skating etc.

But of course pick your time of day, and you're unlikely to be bothered.
