Skimmer pod alternatives

Im looking at getting something along the lines of a skimmer pod. I want something where i can attach my gimbal head to and still shoot at low levels.The skimmer pod design looks nice and would be easy to push along the ground or beach etc.

What other makes are avilable as i only know of the skimmer pod?

I use the Jobu equivalent, one of these - http://www.jobu-design.co.uk/Custom-Mounts/Ground-Mounts/SGP it does the job very well. Works well sliding along the ground and the rubber feet give a solid base when used on a car roof. It is a good and well made product but whether it is worth the extra over a skimmer pod I can't say.

Thanks Peter, its interesting to see two different designs for a product with the same aim-stability and getting low.

Get an old Frisbee, a block of wood and a few bolts and make one, simple.

There are loads of online tutorials showing how to make one. I would like to search all the others available first before deciding.

I see the Walt Anderson one is another take on the design.

Yeah Ade i would consider making one with some heavy duty plastic to save weight but would like to see whats available and what designs are out there first before deciding.

To be perfectly honest Mark, for the amount of times I would use one, that would suffice.

Yip, im just thinking that they are quite thin. I might get one around 12" and put a thin alloy plate in it to firm it up and it shouldnt add much weight at all.

May be heavy enough on its own,you could add an alloy plate if need be mate.

Just emailed the seller to find out the size as i want something 10-12" for the big 600mm lens...Cheers for the link..
