So ive got a couple of days spare this month and fancy going somewhere different. I would like the location to be good for landscapes and wildlife...

Im based in Portsmouth and am thinking of going to Wales, Skomer to be exact.

Questions are:

Am i going to be limited with my 70-200 for wildlife shots? (will i be able to get close enough?)
Any good camp-sites around there?

Anyone wanna join me on skomer? Going for Monday 15th Aug - Wednesday 17th Aug

I did skomer back in june when the puffins were there, it's a pretty bleak place, not much landscape wise, I got a few at the back of the island but not much, without the puffins I'd have been very dissapointed personally.

Tom, you can shoot puffins on skomer with a wide angle so your 70-200 will be more than adequate for there. There is a campsite on the last farm before the ferry to skomer.

I have just read that there are no puffins on skomer in august?

Hi Tom, why not look at the this meet 'Brecon Beacon Loonies - Go to the sea - Sat 27th August'. I went on the last one to the Brecon Beacon's and had a fabulous time  Will be staying a couple of days on this one aswell :D. Otherwise i'm sure someone their will point you in the right direction.

Skomer is a very tough place to shoot landscapes on, it's a high island, tall cliffs and almost impossible, apart from one area to get to ground level.
Also unless you stay over, you won't get the early or late light, as the sailings to the island wont have started or they will already have returned.

If you are set on Wales, you can't go wrong with the Brecon Beacons, so many locations I could suggest. PM me if you have a location in mind.

Thanks for all the info. Well I won't to tp skomer then, will find somewhere else. Im off to cornwall today so will see what I find :) and maybe go back that way..
