Yes
I had a Sky + box and dish fitted about 3/4 years ago and would now like to replace the box with a Sky HD box.
Is this just a simple exchange of one box for another or is there a possibility of compatibility issues with the age of the system, dish receiver etc.
Thanks
Dave

You have to phone sky to get your viewing card paired with the new box. Easy to do and loads of help on google.

The actual box swapping takes minutes and everything is a straight swap.

Andy - many thanks for the info. I will do a search on Google and I see Sky have a forum as well

is your cable a twin cable from the dish.
it might need upgrading.

I reckon that as he had sky+ already then he has all he needs

Not sure if its dual core but only one cable!!

I had an old Sky box which we upgraded to HD

All the cables were the same ( but we can't record multiple channels as we haven't two fitted because they go under the house! )

Straight swap from Sky+ to SkyHD will work without the need for new cables etc, at least it did with mine, save money too with a self install.

It'll cost you a extra tenner a month on top of what your paying already for Sky+.

I've just got rid of the whole Sky tv package now and bought a Foxsat PVR box, what I get on Freesat is enough for me saving me 30 quid a month.

chances are you have a twin cable that has both cores in a figure 8 style sheath, have a look at a piece of exposed cable or have a look at the back of your box, if you have 2 screw-in type connectors your in business.

You don't have to pay the 10/ month unless you want the subscription channels.

I really do beg your pardon for making the assumption he might be be at least getting the HD channel to go with the new box.
Something I should have learned by now on TP is to be careful what you post, there is always a nitpicker somewhere ready to pounce.

Just out of interest (I have Humax Freesat), does this mean that you can or cannot get HD just by solely changing the box?

I normally see posts as a way to increase knowledge rather than nit-picking;)

not long had mine done...phone them up and tell them that you are thinking of
unsubscribing from them,( you are having trouble with your skybox)
I had a new box fitted within the week...no payment

You can get some HD channels without a HD subscription :)

From sky...

HD channels received depend on your Sky TV subscription. Channel 4 HD, BBC HD, BBC One HD, ITV1 HD, Channel 5 HD and NHK World HD are available without subscription. Channel 4 HD and Channel 5 HD require a viewing card. ITV1 HD is only available in England and Wales.

so calm down.

We got our box free, but as soon as the 12 months are up, we will drop the HD subscription.
