I've discovered this rather useful app for iOS users called SkyGuide which I thought might be worth bringing to attention. What makes it so useful is the simple fact you can input a location, and then a time and date, and the app shows you what's in the sky depending on the the direction you're looking.

Along with that you can speed time up, so for example, you can quickly view where and how the Milky Way might rise above the horizon from your current location.

Figured it's a useful tool for planning specific photographs at various locations you might wish to try. Unfortunately it can't predict the weather...

I'd also recommend this app. I've used it for about 18 months now and love it!
I was sat on the beach with some friends at 3am in Selsey at the weekend watching the stars and they found it fascinating.
