Hey Guys,

Just got given a Skylight lens, Just wondering when I would actually use it? I only ask because I have never heard of one before.

It doesn't really do anything. It's mainly used as a protective filter. On film they had a more of a use to reduce haze in the sky but not on digital.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll end up using it as a protective filter, makes more sense than throwing it away.

Just be aware that you may end up getting more light spots on shots due to light bouncing between the front lens element and the filter.

Also, that your images are going to be as good as the worst part of the optics - chances are that will be the filter.

I personally don't use 'protective' filters.

I could attach it to a piece of welding glass for a filter... just knock out the glass. Could be worth a bit of DIY

Yes, def worth it, but do a few test shots James, to make sure there is no degredation to your shots when you use it ...
