There was a pair of programmes on bbc1 last week about sleep. They had two sufferers of it. Might still be on iplayer.

Ok, now I'm worried! Probably have to wait until the new year before the Docs can fit me in, but I'll give them a call.

Don't leave it until then as they may have to refer you to the hospital and that could take quite a bit more time. Get to your GP now and you'll save time later!

If you do much driving for a living it can have fatal consequences for others. Sleep apnoea sufferers are much more likely to fall asleep at the wheel.

It's a notifiable condition so you need to tell the dvla. https://www.gov.uk/sleep-apnoea-and-driving

Hi guys i to suffer from it i used to be a taxi driver and as a result of weight issues and unhealthy sleeping patterns developed it very badly. I literally fell asleep every time i stopped moving, the wife says i used to sleep in the middle of a conversation. My doc had a hard time getting me seen by a specialist but once i saw him i was diagnosed and treated within 4 days and never lost my licence as at the time it was my lively hood so i couldn't afford to loose it. The tests showed that i stopped breathing between 60-90 times an hour and the specialist said i was one of the worst cases he'd come across, im so glad i got it seen to as my life has become so much better since. I lost 5stone in 4 months after getting treated which simply involves wearing a mask over my nose at night while i sleep which pumps air into my nose and stops the airways from closing.

Sleep apnoea? No.....I just don't sleep. Not much that's worth anything anyway. 4 - 5 hours a night if I'm lucky. USed to it now.

I hope they get you sorted soon!

Got a monitor from the hospital today have to wear it tonight and then leave it back tomorrow as far as I know it monitors o2 levels .....

if it's one that you where on your finger, then yeah it sound like an o2/stats monitor, it will also monitor your heart rate, some I think may also monitor CO2 but not sure, I do home sleep studies on a quarterly basis :D hospital ones are better though as they can monitor your blood gas levels etc plus Blood pressure and blood sugar etc, much more comprehensive

Ditto sleep is a luxury rarely sleep more than 2-3 hours continuous at night sometimes not at all. Surprising how you get used to it , I tend not to fight and get frustrated just get up have a cuppa or two and try again.

Reading seems to help to take your mind elsewhere or listen to web radio, music, pod-cast's etc. on my Ipod

Recently delved into self hypnosis with some good results. generally getting relaxed helps, and of course dawn photography is great, (and your already awake:lol:) best time of the day.

Some of my best birding photo's were taken just after sunrise.

I also have sleep apnoea, and am an ex-taxi driver. I use a CPAP machine at night with a full mask, that covers both my mouth and nose. I have used several other masks over the last 7 or 8 yrs since being diagnosed.

I dont get it, what makes you think you suddenly have sleep apnoea? Tiredness? Im sure you must have other symptoms that made you come to this conclusion?

Ok Donnie.....I'm pretty certain I have it! According to my better half, I will stop breathing numerous times throughout the night, and after a little reading/research, coupled with the fact that I have weight issues, I'd say it was a good bet.

It was a fairly good bet that my tiredness, headaches, weakness etc were caused by Diabetes - turned out to be a brain tumour.

Good bet that my upper right segment belly ache was gall bladder related - turned out to be Pneumonia.

Get to a quack and get a proper diagnosis, Nick - it could save your life. They may not get it right every time but they have a far better chance than you do, however many tales you've read anywhere. Once a proper diagnosis is made, you should be started on treatment which is supposed to work very well - I'm told that the mask isn't that comfortable to start off with but you get used to it within a night or 2. I know I barely noticed the Oxygen nose clip or mask after the first night in hospital with the Pneumonia (once the Pneumonia was diagnosed).

Cheers guys.....suppose I should get looked at really.

Yea nick, its a very dangerous condition to live with especially if you drive a lot or operate machinery and yet its fairly easy to diagnose and treat. From what the doc told me it can be cured by a small operation in some cases but most are sorted by using the cpap machine and it has turned my health around big time.

Still waiting for results. Consultant said he would let my doc know ,if I dont hear anything before christmas I will ring early in the new year

Youll maby be ok then as i was told the day i took the oximeter back they then gave me a cpap machine and i had to travel up and down daily for about a week to make sure it was working right then followed by 6 monthly check ups for 2 years but now i just go up if theres a problem with the machine.

Best of luck with it and if you ever want a chat about it just send me a pm

My 22yr old son has this and he copes really well for a young un with it.

My dad suffers from it.
He has a machine that he has to have on every night when he sleeps. Connects to a mask he wears.

Forgot about this, eventually asked doc about results and I don't have sleep apnea although he has no idea why I'm still not sleeping much....

I am up most nights for at least an hour, go to bed about 11.30, normally up again at between 2 and 3 for an hour or so, back to bed then up at 5 most mornings. Although the last couple of weeks is been 6.
I now just don't get round up by it and accept that's the way I am.
