Slide scanner?

Yes
I'm hoping someone here may be able to help with my quest tried on another forum.
I have 2 rare slides enclosed in a 'Butlins' viewer. They are about 50 years old and the slides are about half an inch square.
I've tried a conventional scanner with no joy. Has anyone a high res slide scanner that will allow these to be scanned at a res suitable for being printed at 6x4?

There's a fair few members with slide scanners, and i'm pretty sure someone will help you out!

I have one myself, but it's packed away at the moment due to moving house ;)

Thanks for the offer anyway. I'm hoping someone can offer as these are really precious photos of my parents and probably the best images we have.

Do we know what size the film is ?
Are they mounted slides, and if so what in and what are its outside dimensions.
I dunno what they are most likely to be, maybe half frame ??

Sorry for the delayed reply, been out. The slides are housed in a plastic eye spy mount. Easily flicked out, but they are only half an inch/12mm square.
Any benefits to either scan technique above?

No problem for me it like taking a macro short of it so it might be a little smaller then 20Meg

No idea what a plastic eye spy mount is.
Chances are if the slide and mount doesn't fit in some way into a standard 35mm dedicated scanner mounted slide holder, the slide will have to be taken out and scanned on a flatbed.
You can slide copy it, basically you take a photo of the slide, but its not the greatest method I can think of.

The eye spy mount is literally a 2 inch long plastic tube with a magnifying glass at one end and at the other the slide, with some opaque plastic for the backlight.

Ah well, flatbed it is then, there won't be any kind of carrier for a dedicated scanner unless it fits in an APS carrier....I don't have one of those...:(

Don't get a Plustek ! Apparently the Epson V700/750 is a really good scanner without going too silly price wise.

I think you have a permanent viewer with the film one end and a mag glass in the other. Looks like it is a break open job then, as no scanner can cope with that. Junior hacksaw to cut through the viewer just in front of the film, be careful.

Cheers, the top flips off. I've had the teeny slide out no problem.
I've also got a slide scanner somewhere, but think it may need a real high res one to bring this teeny image up big enough for a 6x4 print.
Eazy slide scan - I'll be in touch.

I've got a similar shot in a viewer, I was going to try taking it out and mounting it in a glass slide and scanning it in my Nikon scan. If it works I'm happy to do yours for you.

Hi Specialise in rare and strange formats, I run large High End Pre-Press Scanners, I should be able to help you out, give me a shout at www.karmaan.co.uk

Cheers guys, I know the teeny slide will need a very hi res scan to beef it up for a good enough print. Hopefuly someone can advise how good the res will be printed up.
