Slim filter cases?

I like to pack a light kit, but B+W filter boxes are ridiculous. 58mm filters come in the same boxes as 77mm filters, albeit with more padding. The cases are 90mm square and 15mm deep, for a filter that's ~60mm in diameter and a few mm deep! The slim filters are even worse, as they rattle in the box if you don't keep the plasticky filter cover on the filter, which is just another thing which makes the process of installing the filter on a lens more awkward. :cuckoo:

Can anyone recommend a decent but protective case for multiple filters?

yes if it was then placed [on its own] in a padded compartment within the camera bag

I have a LowePro Nova 190 AW and all my filters sit in the front pocket

in front of which is the storage pocket for the raincover - so more protection from bumps

just an idea as you wanted lightweight
 
How about a cheap (but strong) filter acting like the front of a lens, with your selection of filters screwed gently onto it (but tight enough not to rattle loose) and a suitable diameter lens cap as a cap for the other end? Stick the resulting stack in a short lens case and store that in your bag.

That's a neat idea, probably worth duct-taping the cheap filters in-case they take a serious knock though. Blank (metal) filters would be ideal, wonder if I can unroll the lip of a couple of filter rings and drop in some metal disks...:thinking:
 
:lol: Googling '58mm stacking filter caps' gets you this thread as result #10 :lol:

Just realised the stacking caps will only do 2 of my 3 58mm filters, but even that probably makes it worthwhile. The 10 stop ND + plain glass filters aren't used nearly as often as the CP, which notably doesn't have a front thread. Will definitely get stacking sets in 52mm, 58mm and 77m though :thumbs:
 
I just put them in CD sleeves and stuff them somewhere in my bag. One filter per CD sleeve, then fold the lid over.

Never had one break yet, including, I should mention, two which took a well known fall off a mountain a few months ago. That was in the top pocket of a cheap LowePro Toploader. Unforutnately months in a stream did damage them, but the glass wasn't cracked.

Cheap, simple, weightless, quick.
