SLR for Video

Hi,

I've had my D60 for a year now and want to upgrade to a camera that can shoot video too. I've done a little research and all signs are pointing to the 550D. I'm definatley looking for full 1080p shooting. Just wanted a bit of advise as to what SLR to upgrade to?

The D60 hasn't even been out a year yet :shrug:

And it's one of the better DSLRs for shooting HD video. The only thing letting it down slightly is that it doesn't auto focus when shooting video.

The Nikon D60 came out in 2008- and it doesn't capture video.

I think you're transposing the 'D';)

If all you are interested in as part of an upgrade is the video element then a 550D is a good bet- I've been toying with the idea of one as a stop gap to see if Nikon can get their video strategy sorted rather than the total Canon switch.

The 550D is more modern and does have better noise control but you may want to consider whether you are looking for bigger improvements in AF, flash control, more dedicated buttons rather than being menu driven, higher shutter speed, more robust body etc and go for a much bigger and longer term upgrade e.g. 7D. At the moment you are talking about going from an 'entry level' camera from 2008 to an 'entry level' camera from 2010- more modern but how long till you need some of the other features? Of course depends on your budget as well which you haven't specified.
