Hi guys, i have acquired my dads old 35mm camera with two lens. The set up consists of Pentax ME super body, SMC Pentax-M 1:2 50mm lens, and an Vivitar 28-200mm 3.5 macro lens.

i like the sharpness of the pentax lens, and would like to know if i can possibly use this lens on my canon D400. I know it will be all manual, which is fine, but isit possible?

I have read on google i can, but has anyone else used slr lens on an dslr body?

It will work with a suitable adapter (they are available) but with manual focus and aperture as you suspect.

Yes,you will need to get a M42 adapter for your canon 400D:)

As you say, if they will work it be just Manual - you'll need an adapter to enable them to fit to your body and as there won't be any 'contact' between lens and body you'll possibly need to go into the settings of your 400D and allow it to shoot without a lens attached -> this is what my father-in-law had to do for his old Leica 300mm prime to work on his Minolta body - he's getting some great results, but everything is set manually, which has led to some interesting results , but very very satisfying when you get it right

You can also get them with focus confirm chip!

fantastic, thanks for the advice guys.... just been on ebay looking at the adapters, but the M42 seems to be a thread type, the lens i have is a bayonet fitting type so would that be the k mount?

The only problem with the canon 400d is that it does not have 'Live View' on the rear screen. This is helpful when focusing as you can zoom in to get the focus just right. It's a bit of an art to get the focus spot on using MF lenses without live view BUT huge fun and more hands on!

I love MF lenses :)

This is one of my lenses (the bigest!!) on my GF1:

Thank you guys, great info. Andy, you got some pics that i can see that you taken with the above setup please

This is the only shot that i have taken (that was any good composition wise!) with this lens. I have taken others with a Raynox 250 macro lens on the front which was fun!
