SLR skin/protector - necessary?

No
I haven't seen a lot of SLRs with skins/protector but since phones, laptops, tablets have them, would it be good if cameras had them too?

Would you buy one?

I did buy one. A complete waste of money. Put it on once, removed it and will never use it again.

Oh was it one of those silicon ones? What was wrong with it?

It was rubber. It felt horrible. The only people to whom I could recommend it are rubberists (warning NSFW if you Google it) and people called Batman.

Hahahaaa oh I can imagine
I really want one for my slr but the only one's I can find is silicon. If it's only the texture then maybe a leather one would be better?

Why would anybody want one? They look awful and probably feel awful too. I don't see any point to them as they're certainly not going to offer much protection.
I don't have any sort of case on any of my devices be it a phone, tablet, laptop, camera or whatever, I just can't see what they offer other that being dust magnets and that's the last thing I want near a camera.
