Small GPS tracker for Geo Tagging?

Afternoon all,

I'm interested in if anybody uses a small discrete GPS device when on days out.
I like the idea of Geo-Tagging my pictures but dont want anything to large like a big hiking watch; or to be using my phone all day.

Any ideas?

I bought the Viltrox N-769/N3 GPS for my D610. Best thing I ever bought as I now no longer have pictures from 'somewhere in Scotland/France'
 
I've used a Garmin eTrex tracker - it's bigger than a wristwatch though, but if you have discreet pockets .... ;)
 
Agree with sjh2008 bought one for my trip to Iceland at the beginning of the month. easy to use and sync photos.
 
I like the look of the GPS tracker from Maplin. Ideally you could click "start" in the morning then use the timestamp data in your photo to work out the GPS coordinates. Or... press the button everytime...

If you had to press every time then this would make the Viltrox a better option as its all automatic? Maybe drains your camera battery though.

The Garmin eTrex would be ideal for out hiking with the camera, maybe less so for city breaks and day outings. Little too large for what I would like.

The GPS tracker lasts for 3 days constantly on, it also has a power save mode when stationary.
I just turn mine on when i leave the house and turn off on return.

Easy as that
 
I've bought a few of these.

The eTrex is very good, but it's not small and the battery life isn't great.

The Maplin (and similar small things) are a major pain in the pass to set them up. There's no screen so you're trying to interpret different LED flashes. So you're screwed if you forget the manual.

I went for the Genie BGT-31. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Generic-GPS-Genie-GT-31/dp/B0036PFFAQ - sadly, no longer available. It has a small LCD screen to make setup a piece of pie yet a battery life that allowed it to keep tracking for over 48 hours continuously in a case, in a bag, in a seat pocket, in a bus.

If I were looking again I'd probably get another eTrex.
 
I use an App on my phone that logs my position every 5 minutes, then sync this log with my photos in Lightroom. And its free. It is simply called Geotag Photos.

I used it recently for a 7 hour hike in the mountains with no problems. I suppose it depends on the phone too. I just have the app running silently in the background and don't look at it until I'm ready to turn it off.
