Smallest tripod?

Im off to NYC at the end of march, I'm taking my Nikon D90, 18-200mm and 10-24mm to keep things light and small in a National Geographic Medium shoulder Bag, I wouldn't mind doing some night shooting to so I could do with a tripod, trouble is i am not carting my Gitzo GT3531 w/ Markins Q3 round! but would like something a lot smaller, I understand I will probably loose stability but I can live with that. Price wise I would say up to £200, I do have a large gorillapod but in vegas that wasn't always good enough as i still needed a wall etc. to find.

So what suggestions can you offer to help me choose?
 
Induro AT014 is cheapish (or the carbon one is around £165) but the alloy version is only 1.1kg and very compact. Calumet sell them.
 
Velbon Luxi L is small and light, would have said the Luxi F, but they are rather hard to find now
Took me ages until I finally got a 2nd hand one last week, but they are excellent if you do come across one

There are a few variants, but make sure you get one with the 24 or 25 mm upper legs rather than the 21mm ones, definitely more solid

thanks, the at014 didnt return any results heres the list of induro tripods is it in there?

Try this - Giottos GB1060 Tripod. For a lot less than your budget. Someone did a review on TP a good few months back. Takes a standard ball head and packs into a backpack.
 
Looks like the Velbon Ultra Maxi-L is the leader atm, price is not bad either.

Any people got experienes with these? Bearing in mind it's not going to be used as main pod but as an ultra light setup
 
Induro is the American version on Benro.
I have a Benro C-168 and it's real nice - with J2 ballhead its only 1.2 kg as its CF, seems stable and can go up to 160cm...very compact too, 30ish cms folded! I'd recommend it, available on ebay (custom fee excluded) for about £240ish?
 
Yep they look pretty good! Reviews compare them nearly to gitzo, small to hmmm may go for the a-069 as it's well sighing my budget for only 200gms
 
right ive plumped for the Benro fingers crossed it suits me, i have just enough room to fit in the bag (at 35cm its a little tall but its a flexible bag) ill give a review on it in April if i remember
 
I would wait until you get to NY and make one of your first visits to B & H. It is like an aladins cave and they will have every kind of tripod (including small / lightweight tripods) on display for you to have a look at. It's been a few years since I was last there but it was so much cheaper and the amount of gear they had in was incredible.

i will be making a visit but didn't want to leave it to chance and end up with a 50cm monster
 
LOL ye i could rest that on my hand so i could get a shot from everywhere, very portable solution!
 
Think B and H stock Benro, might want to check? Also be careful on the 069 model, it's pretty skinny as it is, and with having 5 section feet it will be even smaller still...stability might be very questionable. Might be better to go for the 068??
 
I have the Slik Sprint Mini as my intermediate/lightweight tripod, but I have fitted my own head to maintain RC2 QR compatibility....

It is a surprisingly sturdy little chap and can easily be fitted into my coat pocket.

they took 4 days to tell me the benro is out of stock, great!, so have a refund.

so im looking at the cheaper velbron luxi sf £112 or i may just sod it and get the Gitzo,

I have a large gitzo CF pod and it is the business, but the cost is getting into £400 and its a lot of money (it does come with a ballhead though), but i know it will be spot on and stable

hmmm off to think...
 
i tried a gorillapod at vegas and didnt like trying to find things to rest it on so i am def going for a tripod, leaning towards the gitzo on reading reviews
 
im leaning to the gitzo an thats dearer at B&H!!!!
 
Was looking at this myself so great timing. I'm leaning towards the giottos tbh, did you have a look at the video link on the Harrison site? Looks ideal just need to work out a nice light head.
 
i did but afaik it was too bug folded, i wanted the pod and head to be under 36-38cm
