This is difficult to comment on really without knowing your brief.
In the first there are two points that attract my eye, the first is the base of the arm where it goes into the deck but that is out of focus so I soon move on, the second is the glasses but nothing to hold interest there either - maybe if there had been something in focus that you could see though the glasses such as the middle of the record or the label it might have appealed to me more.
The second takes a while to find the in focus mike, but the angle of it leads my eye straight down and out of the picture, would have liked it pointing into the picture and slightly lower.
You certainly have an abstract feel and the black and white, and his hair/glasses make me think of Freddie (of the Dreamers) era

Prefer the first image has a real retro feel to it, the point of focus in the second shot is to close to the edge of the frame for me.
