Another oldie, this time 2013 with two Black 5's blasting up the West Coast main line ready for the attack on Shap.

Ideally I would have liked the exhaust to have lifted a little but it wasn't to be.

Many thanks, glad you like the shot, there's something appealing about steam trains in snow scenes.

As for "handsome engines"..............................only if you come from west of the Pennines!

It is very nice, lovely image.

Just wondering, is the exhaust a temperature thing? Was at Glenfinnan a few weeks ago (nudging 30 degrees) and that steam loco just threw out almost clear, dark exhaust. You could see it but nothing like this.

A hot dry day is going to disperse the steam portion of the plume a lot quicker than on a cold humid one... So you'd be left with the smoke that should be minimal if the engine is at peak efficiency.
