So then, seen as its chucking it down with snow outside I wondered if anyone had any good tips for taking photos in the snow, or what to do if you don't want to venture outside!

Wrap up warm, keep the camera as dry as possible. Wait for the sunshine and blue skies for a better shot, it will probably be about for a while. Sit by the fire and read a good photography book
