I'm off to Wales in the summer and on the cards is the 10 mile hike up and down Mount Snowdon. We are going to be doing as much cycling as we can while there, equipment will be at a minimum so looking to take 1/2 lenses....any recommendations on what to take?
 
I was up there a fortnight ago and took my X30 in a pouch on my rucksack waist belt.
Having your camera close to hand is the best way to get shots while up on the mountain. Pocketable cameras are pretty much ideal; when I take my DSLR walking it spends much of the day being hand-carried.
Most of my shots were on the wide end of the lens (28mm).; a bit wider would have been nice for a few of the shots. On a full frame DSLR, I've found the 24-105 pretty much ideal.

I took my D610 with 18-35mm and a tripod yesterday. But I didn't bring a bag or anything as I wasn't planning on climbing the mountain. But in the spirit of hunting down the shot I ended up climbing half way up the mountain anyway.

I think 2 lenses will be too taxing. I would say a light tripod would be very useful. I took a lot of long exposure shots of running water etc. Really nice ones.

But a lightweight bag with room for water and food and clip you tripod onto it. Keep it light weight. Unless you are particularly fit.

I don't know if you can ride your way all the way to the top on the bike. But I suspect that's more hard work than hiking.

Also summer time maybe really hot so u need to keep weight down as much as possible. And a pair of hiking sticks won't go amiss.
 
Thanks for the input everyone. Although we are taking the bikes the plan is to walk the longer of the mountain paths with a tea stop near the summit at the cafe.....never saw myself as a Chris Bonnington of big hills and the like :-)

Got the hiking sticks and bought the shoes today and sundries today so getting ready for the trek. Like the pictures Duncan and it looks fabulous so hopefully we get a day like yours.
 
It's 10 miles on one of the most straight forward mountain climbs in the country with a cafe and train at the top don't over think it your not going up Everest!

Personally I'd take my 24-105mm and 35mm f2 I very rarely carry a tripod but the gorillapod and remote would make the bag.

Pack plenty of liquids and if you've bought new shoes wear them everyday between now and then. Stiff new shoes are much more likely to be a problem than a little bit of camera gear!
 
Biking on Snowdon is banned until 1st October. This is a voluntary ban agreed between the National Park and various cycling bodies. The idea is that Joe Public won't be harrassed by well meaning bikers in the busy months. After October there are fewer grockles to upset so biking can resume till March (?) next year. Bikers are requested to observe this unofficial rule with the unspoken threat that a perma ban will be put in place if the request is flouted.
AFAIK this only applies to Snowdon itself, which is the main tourist magnet for the region.
