so, do i really trust my d700 and 70-200 in the rain?

i'm shooting the marathon on sunday and everything points to rain. I've never really got my gear wet before, but i've heard that it should be ok with the pro level weather sealed gear. I'll be using a d700 with a 70-200 vr 2 most of the time...shall i just shoot on in light to moderate rain with the occasional wipe of the camera? Or is this madness?

My Canon gear has definitely seen plenty of light drizzle and sea splashing. Everything alive and working... I'd think nikon should be similar.

Was out in the rain with my D700 & 24-70mm lens,no problems, just take an dry cloth with you, to wipe down every now and then,and if it really start pouring down,just have a bag handy to put in in

Its ok in light rain, just if it really tips down you need to keep the join between lens and body covered somehow...
