No
... that i'm rather confused about (silly I know).

Let's cut to the chase, a girl I know wants to make a make up artist portfolio, she saw some of my not so amazing photographs and surprisingly quite liked them, we've been talking and she wants me to take pictures of the makeup she does.

Recently I bought some studio equipment, I have lighting, backdrop and everything sorted but i'm obviously going to practice a little before I actually start making money, so obviously with this girl it'll be practice for me and her.

My question is, do you think I should have themes for makeup portraits? Should there be coloured gels used and should I use more than 1 model for this session?

I could possible spend a few hours shooting one girl or the whole day shooting different girls and getting different shots. This will be my first time shooting in a studio, so any advice/tips you guys have will be appreciated :D

Why not practice on your mate first, get that sussed then bring in the models:thinking:
Good luck:thumbs:

Go through the fashion mags, bookmark the images you like best and try and re-create the feel of those.
Then when you're more comfortable with all the lighting, angles etc. start experimenting with your own ideas, based on what worked out best from the previous shoots.

I'm with Arkady on this, get yourself a scrapbook/folder on your comp, and whenever you see an image you like the look of, copy it to your scrapbook or folder. When you're stuck for inspiration have a look through. Also useful to try and "de-construct" the ones you like. Try and work out wher the lights are placed, try the poses. When you're comfortable, try changing and incorporating your own ideas.

The scrap-booking / collecting of ideas seems like a good starting place but also - have you spoken to the make up girl about how she sees things happening? How many models will there be, does she have a particular theme of make-up she is intending to use etc.

There is not much point you coming up with loads of ideas if she has her heart set on something specific.

:agree: At the end of the day, its what the customer wants so don't decide on anything.
But do experiment with what you have, and come up with lots of ideas.
