As the title says i just treated myself to a few xmas presents a canon 50mm1.4 and a canon 85mm 1.8 they should be with me in the next few days just wondering what other peoples experiences were like with these lenses as what i've researched and read about them all seems to be positive. There my first prime lenses and i cant wait to have a play.

i dont know why but they excite me more than my L lenses when i bought them. Im really looking forward to composing the picture with out zoom that may sound strange but i feel it will only help with my photography.

I found the Canon 85mm 1.8 to be an amazing lens, portraits were quite simply beautiful with it.

i doubt i could wait until xmas lol i'm like a kid again.

I too have an early xmas pressie, a nikorr 14-24 but sadly wrapped up awaiting the big day.

Only 34 days to go...

Christmas? Schmismas! Why let a month and a half of the warranty slip away or have a few hundred quid's investment sit around in gaudy wrapping paper rather than being used? Fine if the lenses were gifts from others but as basically normal purchases made under the pretence that they're gifts to yourself, just get on and use them! And enjoy your new toys!

Hehe, totally agree, I would use now, rewrap it for Christmas to reopen in the morning

My missus has told me that she has bought me something for christmas that comes in a gold box with a Nikon logo but won't tell me what it is....

My guess is a battery. :'(

I shouldn't, because it would be cruel but... :D

That is exactly what my husband got me for my birthday - I was a tad puzzled as a Canon shooter! It turned out it was an insulated mug, and he got me a Nikkor so I wouldn't confuse it with my real lenses - clever thinking,I thought! I do hope yours turns out to be a real lens rather than a mug, however!

I've got both of the lenses the OP has just bought and I can guarantee he'll be very happy on christmas day. I hardly ever use mine as they aren't much much good for my aviation shots but they are brilliant when I do use them.

She is terrible with presents. She bought me a toasted sandwich maker one year. Don't get me wrong I like a toasted sandwich but it was the worst christmas ever

I once bought my wife a 5 tonne trolley jack. She did not see the funny side of it.

So the lenses arrived today from digital rev amazing packaging and boy i love em really really quick to focus so light and such a pleasure to shoot with since using L glass even tho its great im totally hook with these primes!!!
