Hi,

Just about to pull the trigger on a D750, but given I have no Nikon lenses at all should I go with the 24-120 f/4G ED VR or the 24-85 f/3.5-4.5G ED VR?

I'll be getting the 85mm 1.8G later but could do with something to be playing with.

What do you guys think - anyone tried both and if so which is better, considering IQ, AF speed etc.

Ta,

John

Where are you buying from? If Panamoz the 24-120 f4 works out about £100 extra. I sold my old D750 a few weeks ago to re-buy with the 24-120 and it was delivered this week. From my initial testing I am more than pleased with it.

You need to weigh up if the extra zoom and the constant f4 is worth it, for me it was, although the 24-85 is a very good lens. I started a discussion on the lenses in the D750 thread a few weeks ago, post 3672 onwards. Linky > https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/nikon-d750.557831/page-92

Thanks Simon, I'll have a look see what was said - I'd seen the thread but if I started at the beginning the 760 would be out buy the time I'd got to the end ;)

John, I just done an edit on my above post as you were typing your reply, have a look on the link from post 3672 onwards.

I've just bought it from panamoz with the 24-120 aswell, although won't arrive for a few days

Cheers, its okay I've found it, just trying to get past the "why would you swap" bit at the mo :)

I do like the idea that its a bit lighter, but dropping range... decisions decisions...

haha, tempting but given I'll order it the second I get BACS confirmation to make sure it arrives before the weekend I'll not spoil my "new toy" fun :)

Thanks though.

EDIT: BTW I think I'll go with the 24-120 - that extra range could be handy, especially in the early stages before I bankrupt us via GAS!

I ordered my new one last Monday morning and it was delivered Wednesday @10.25 am, pretty good service to get from HK to here in just over 48hrs. Hit them early on Monday for the BACS form and you should get similar delivery times, just remember their ahead of us by seven hours or so. Sorry if I'm telling you to suck eggs and you have ordered from them previously.

I ordered mine early this morning. Doubt I'll get it in 48 hours ;) had an order confirmation email, how long does it take to get a dispatch email?

lol, no worries - BACS request with them and its currently just after 1am on HK - I know I'm a stalker :)

My dispatch email was a few hours after paying, which gives you the tracking number for UPS. Not sure how it works with them over the weekend. Assuming they start the ball rolling on Monday you would hopefully have delivery on the Wednesday like I had, although it may come down to how busy UPS are in your area. You will probably have an email waiting for you on Monday morning, due to the time difference.

My last two camera orders were placed on a Thursday and were out for delivery on the following Monday, but UPS failed to deliver and I had them on the Tuesday. I mentioned this to Tina who give me a few quid back and she said they will take it up with UPS. Well it worked for last weeks delivery.
