Soft focus

Hello,

I have been using my sony A550 with a sigma 35-105 lens(i think, not got it at hand) and i am finding some images although focussed on the eyes, not coming out sharp enough.

IS there any process i could go throughout to determine what my be causing the soft focus?

If you rule out camera / subject shake at slow speed, and bad focus, - then some glass is just a bit soft. This is particularly common with older 3rd party zooms, which were only meant to produce a few 6x4 prints for family album. You could improve it by stopping down to f/11, but only to some extent.

not sure the fstop is the solution i need to have a play with the lens

I've played around with the lens tonight and it seems sharper, i played with the dial on the lens viewer, don't know what its called but that made a difference
