Just wondering with a 580ex flash, what would be the biggest soft box you could get away with using
 
£25 ebay bowens or elinchrom adapter, big fat stand and you can mount quite a beast. 100cm should work OK, maybe more. I'll give this ago in the next few months - currently using just 50cm one.
 
Thanks , yes I've got a 60x60 which the flash fills with light no problem , but would like to go bigger
 
I've used my 580EXII in a large octabox (Lastolite Hotrod Octa) with excellent results.
 
I've used a 580mk1 in a 170cm octa. I wouldn't say the results were great but it did what I wanted and put out a soft light over a wide area. If I could mount two in there I'd have been happier.

I think I'll invest in a bigger one and see how it goes
