is there any particular reason why my 80-200 is softer on my d3 than my d300? (1/50 2.8 @ 200mm on both)

suggestions for tests etc appreciated :)

both

i'm pondering if i should be changing the fov to match on both, but it seems pretty off from what i can tell so far, i'll just see if i can upload some pics

Is it centre sharpness or corner sharpness you're referring to? Remember the 300 is a cropped body and therefore won't use the edges of the optics which will usually result in overall better sharpness than on the full-frame cousin.

it's centre sharpness (well subject is central) and the d3 is in ff mode and obv d300 in dx :)

gah..i'm stupid will sort images in a momento

they're pretty hefty downloads though, well if you're in 56k land anyhow :)

My 80-200mm is just as super sharp on the D3 as it was on the D300 - in fact maybe even better. No point in a huge file - we can only see them at screen resolution anyway and you have an 800px limit here!

that's why i included links rather than actual images, should i just crop in then and link smaller files? :)

ah yeah, knew there was something i forgot, i'll give it a bash on manual (i'm having one of my slow days)

i've just had a bash with mf and can't seem to get it any more than marginally better

spoke to the peeps at nikon and they've said af fine tune is generally only for primes as you'll throw out the rest of the range on zooms so not sure what to do?

(it's just the d3 images oof yeah?)

yeah they're both on the same tripod nothing changed apart from switching bodies, didn't really check the metering because i'm on manual so it won't make a difference will it?

well figured i'd keep the settings the same on both, what should i be on? :)
