Hi all

Now I'm sure you're all fed up of getting annoying people like me coming up and asking for advice on what to buy next, but I really am stuck...

I currently have a Sony A330 and a Tamron lens - see my camera bag. I feel that I am being very much held back with my current kit. The lens focusses far too slowly, the sharpness is very much lost when stretching it (say beyond 200mm) and I just feel I have outgrown it. The camera doesn't shoot at a fast enough rate for me, considering I am very keen on wildlife photography. The whole kit also seems to spend a lot of time 'hunting' which I find very irritating. Ironically, I think the 330 with the Tamron lens is a great bit of kit for a beginner, who will forever be happy with just plodding around with it.

I know what it is I am looking for, but haven't yet been able to come across it... My requirements are:

  • Good shoot rate
  • Reasonable kit lens
  • A good quality, high zoom lens, that remains sharp on the edge of its range. This should also be a fast focussing lens (so probably something with ultra sonic drive)
  • Some kit that can easily have IS either in the body, or as part of the lens (Sony appealed originally as it has 'SteadyShot') - the Sony enabled me to get some cheap, but good, lenses without it built in, but I understand it's more difficult to get SonyA fittings.
  • Something that can be versatile and meets the needs of many scenarios - but its main game is fast stuff
  • Would be nice for video, although this is essential and I know that a DSLR is not a video camera

I am sure that I could get at least £350 for my current kit (body and original accessories) plus the kit lens and Tamron one - it's all in perfect condition. I could then probably boost the entire budget to somewhere around £1000 for the body and 2 lenses.

Does anyone have any idea what I should be going for? Some suggestions for me to go and play with? Any experiences you care to share? I'm asking here as I am sure you guys know what you are on about, and I have so far failed to spot something :( Or it could be a case of me needing to wait for something new on the horizon?!

I have used the other half's 400D and this was great, although it was noticeable without IS as some of my came out better on mine, even though her camera and lens is miles better. Problem is, the 400D is knocking on a bit...

Sorry for the long post and regular style of question. All thoughts appreciated.

Many thanks :)
