I've been out in the woodlands around Cheltenham trying to get some autumnal tree photos. I find it very hard to find interesting trees that are isolated from the messy scrubby background. The colours look lovely but don't make a good photo. The dog gets very bored waiting for me.

I also struggle with this type of shot, so understand any frustration. The root ladder one works best for me.

Root ladder would work better for me if cropped to only include the roots and the tree trunks on the right.

The edge of the woods also works well because of the flowing leading lines and different colours top and bottom..

I took some with just roots and tree trunks. I will revisit them. The location is only half a mile from my house so I might go back and try again.

You could just crop the shot dow to see if YOU like it.

I like the edge of the woods best. I'd crop the top to lose that bit of sky though. I agree about the root ladder. Crop that to lose the top too. Nice set that gives a good feel of what Autumn is like
