Hi I was looking into purchasing a wide angle lens but i don't have a fortune to spend so I was looking at either the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 or the Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 both I can get for under £300.

I am noob to this though, my kit lens from the 450D is the EFS 18-55mm IS f/3.5 f/5.6. What will the lenses above add to my landscape photos that using my kit lens at 24mm won't?

i'm not a Canon user, but my understanding is that 'not much' - the 18-55mm already goes wider than either of those, and unless you're shooting handheld/wide-open, then the faster aprerture on the primes is not an issue.

obviously the primes will have less distortion, but you can always fix that in PP anyway.

if you're after more wide-angle perspective, then have a look at the Canon 10-22mm EFs zoom, the sigma 10-20mm or the Tokina 12-24mm. think you could find those secondhand below £ 300?

Short answer is: not much, really. The prime lenses should be sharper than the kit lens and offer a wider aperture, but normally one would stop down the aperture a bit for a landscape, so the kit lens would do quite well and, indeed, give a wider field of view.

As mentioned above, the Sigma 10-20 will give a significantly wider field of view, which could be good, depending on the types of landscape shots you are taking.

Edit: beaten to the punch again.
