i dont normally use ebay or flash,some help please.

i have a D3s and i just bought a SB600 i thought i could use it of the camera with the camera as the trigger,i seem to be wrong.

so i was wondering is there anyting cheap on ebay i could buy so i could try using the flash of camera before buying something [expensive] Nikon?

Nikon do the SU-800 flash commander as you'll know, but I'd be tempted just to get a SB-800 or 900 for a few more notes and have the benefit of a second flash if you need it. Radio triggers are an alternative, but will likely be even more expensive again.

The 'ghetto' option is to get a long sync cord. Not the neatest solution, but it'll be by far the cheapest.
 
You could try a cheap trigger device such as the Yongnuo RF 603 which costs about £30.00 for the Tramsmitter and two Receivers. Available from a variety of sellers on eBay.

I thought you could do this with the D90/SB600 so I'm surprised it isn't available on the D300s, unless I'm missing something.
 
its a D3s

i was hoping there was something that would work the same as the SB800 as a trigger into the nikon system.
 
Dont think d3 has a popup flash to trigger it in that way. (i use my d90 flash all the time to trigger the sb600)
(If thats what you were thinking.) ....i could be wrong though but maybe google something around that....

maybe i should try my D700 in the meantime.
 
You need an su-800 if you want to send an ettl signal (or another flash set to commander mode).

Or get a cheap Yongnuo Rf-603 set if you're happy to use the flash in manual.

It's not restricted. Pros don't tend to use pop up flash, so they didn't bother wasting money and camera real estate trying to cram one in.
Instead you use the SU-800.

D700 will work fine. I guess Nikon assume D3s owners doing studio work/portraiture will be pros with a bag full of SB-800s and 900s. Unfortunately, pro kit has pro accessories with pro prices :thumbsdown:
 
Cheap yongnuo triggers + receivers = your best + cheapest bet.

I bought a set of PT-04 trigger + 2 receivers over 2 years ago, still going. Though I don't really need them, as the D800 pop-up flash fires all 3 of my units. 2 x sb900 + 1 Yn-560.
