Some questions for professional photographers

I've noticed that glamour photographers dont seem to use auto focus in a studio. I'm a beginner and when I'm taking snapshots I use autofocus and it takes a few seconds to focus on my subject.

But the pro's dont seem to use it at all, is it because their cameras focus quickly or is it a technique they've mastered? They move back and forth without ever seeming to adjust the lens or anything

Also I have a Canon T2i but I've seen a Canon 20d and Nikon D1x on offer for a bargain price, would the professional features of these cameras be more practical than those on the T2i?

I'm sorry for being a noob and thanks in advance for any replies

Im not a pro, but in a studio the range of focus is minmal, so it wont take long to autofocus a change of pose. The model will have only moved a few inches at best.
Of course they will be using high end cameras and lenses which focus fast, and usualy in good light.

Most modern cameras/ should autofocus on anything in well under a second unless you are focusing from very close to very very far.
