Hi everyone

looking for some tips for how to get some good shots with my camera

i have a pretty basic Canon EOS 1000D

next week i am heading to ultimate dubs in telford and want to get a shot of every car thee but with it being indoors i find my pictures don't come out the best, colours look dull, the lights give off a sort of yellow tint to the photos and so on

I know that i am not going to achieve amazing photos but i want to have some pretty decent ones, i have tried to follow instructions i found on google but just didn't find them to help much

any help or tips you could maybe give me would be much appreciated

thanks
Jordan

The yellow tint can be fixed by adjusting the white balance assuming you shot raw, maybe jpeg too but it's not something I've ever tried.

the lights give off a sort of yellow tint to the photos

Look in the instruction manual about how to manually set the white balance. This will keep the colours accurate, and help with the dullness.

Shoot RAW fix it in lightroom later :)

or a fast lens (50mm 1.8 ?) so you don't need a flash. As said, alter the white balance and bump the ISO.

If you shot in RAW you'd be able to fix the white balance afterwards..

thats everyone, the lens is an 18-55mm

i checked and it is set to shoot in RAW, i'll have a look through google and see how to fix the white balance afterwards

Important bit. Do you have any software that will allow you to process the RAW file?

If not, you'll come home with a memory card that filled up surprisingly quickly, and no viewable images.

You should have DPP with your Canon (I'm assuming it also ships with the 1000D). Check your disks, if you have that it's very straight forward, right click on the image (once you've opened it in DPP (Digital photo professional I think is the long name), then I think it's tool palette and you can amend the Raw settings there very simply.

Good luck.

If you are using a Mac you don't even need to bother with Photoshop, Canon software or anything else. You can upload RAW from your camera straight to iPhoto.
Click on the Edit icon and you can then adjust various settings on the RAW file (White Balance, exposure, saturation, sharpness etc,.)
For a basic tool I find iPhoto great as it is so quick and easy to use (sort of the opposite of Photoshop!)

Try live view on the camera and scroll through the white balance options till you get the most natural looking then use that setting.
Shoot raw if your comfortable, it's got better options for editing the colours after, but if your unsure or haven't used it before you might be better shooting large jpeg and raw (you can edit the raw later when your more experienced at editing) but you'll have jpeg to view and share.
Remember don't just shoot the cars, go for the details as well, lights, wheels reflections etc, these can make good abstract shot.

Thanks everyone

I wasn't going to just shoot the cars. I like to try capture the small details and not jist the cat on its own
