Someone spilt beer on my lens

Whilst I was at a festival yesterday, someone spilt beer on my 16-85mm. It was fully extended and I wiped as much as I could off right away, and made sure any excess I could get rid of was removed.

It seems to be fine, if I hadn't seen it happen at the time I wouldn't have known it happened. My concern however is that there's a slight beer smell from the lens which makes me think some might of got in the extending part.

What would you do in this situation?

Clean with wet cloth. I hope it wasn't a whole pint but just little bit. And sell on ebay as almost new :)

It's cleaned in all the areas that can be accessed. It was just a splash, but covered most of the extending part. I'm sure it's fine and I'm just being paranoid.

Only got it this week!:bang:

Hope for the best and rename the lens a "beercan"

The fun of taking expensive kit to festivals ey? Hope your lens is still okay! I get super paranoid about my kit getting damaged too so I know how you feel.

Fingers crossed m8 I have just bought an old d100 for taking to things like festivals with the small zoom owes me £95 so no biggy if it gets damaged and is good enough quality wise for my needs.

Sorry guys forgot about this.

Beercan comment made me laugh, a bloody expensive one, haha.

Yeah, I don't regret taking it as I was really pleased with some of the shots, but it's a risk you take sadly. It seems perfectly fine, I don't go smelling my lens too much so I can live with the dribble of beer.

Thanks for the help guys.
