I've never heavily edited my photos, I've always just taken them into photoshop, made sure the colours are good and the image is sharp, and left it at that. Ive always concentrated on making sure the photo is crystal clear & sharp, looking like it did off camera, rather than hammering it with effects and turning it into something, rather than it just being natural.
However, one of my main goals this year is to step my game up in terms of editing and begin being more creative with my photos, which has inspired the theme for the photo below. It's my girlfriends dog, original photos can be seen here - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=403075 - with a bit of messing in Lightroom to create a custom B&W 'vintage' feel to it. If he was alive in the mid 1900's, I can imagine this is how a photo of him would look.
