A very kind friend has lent me a D200 for the past couple of months. He know needs to sell it so I'll be left with my wee D40 :razz:

Tempted to buy it off him but think I'll save for the D90 (or maybe it's anticipated replacement?).
 
Used a D200 for magazine work for 18 months - great camera. Okay, high ISO is well trumped by D300 and other 'pro' models but as a camera for everyday use it's fantastic. Great sensor, great AF and the handling and button config is superb. They're going for £350-£400 used these days so are a bit of a bargain.
 
Here's what was in my mind when I decided to sell my D200 for a new D90 (but not the D5000 or D300s):

_ I need something lighter to carry around all day long.
_ ISO performances
_ 3'' LCD screen
_ I don't use MF lenses
_ My macbook pro 'supports' SD cards but not CF's.
_ I don't need weather sealed body, I rather put my beloved camera & lenses inside my room than bringing them outside in the rain/storm/etc..
_ Video / Live View mode (Well I don't really care about this bit, but it may come in handy sometimes...)
 
really wanted a D200 after my D40

got a D5000 instead -....very nice ....but oh that D200 is a classic
 
I see Pat now uses a D2X. Is there any great advantage of this over a D200

I bought the D2x for the built-in vertical grip and better weatherproofing (I shoot outdoors every day). High ISO performance is same - perfectly useable up to 1000. Battery life on D2x is awesome; get 1500+ shots per charge, although they are £90 each new.

The extra two or so megapixels on the D2x is also handy, although it equates to only a little more actual print size - every little helps though as they say :) . D200 is as good for every day use in reality.

I actually regret selling my D200 because it was sooooo reliable. AF was spot-on and build quality was top notch. Weatherproofing was actually very good thinking back but lure of a top-end model was too great. I actually bought my first D2x by mistake; put a silly offer in on a fleabay auction (£600) and was accepted. Was a bit skinto at the time so decided to ditch the D200.

Just bought another D2x (minter with 10K on the clock) for £750. I love them :)

To the OP, get the D200 if it less than £400 :)
 
how come?

what did your 200 do that your 300 doesn't :thinking: :shrug:
unless of course you just really liked it & have fond memories :)

It just did the job and did it very well. I love my d300 but the d200 was a just great all round body. Yes I also have fond memories and wouldn't mind getting another as a second body if I ever need one.
 
The D200 was good, but the D300s wipes the floor with it in every single possible way. (ISO 100 possibly excepting.) I'd pick a D90 over the D200 anyday unless you shoot in adverse weather conditions OR use MF lenses.

was just wondering as i have a 200 & i'm pretty happy with it so far :thumbs:

sometimes better high ISO output would be nice but as my first proper DSLR its doing me fine :)
