Sonia close up kit

Hey everyone, I'm completely new to this forum site because i only started photography 6 months ago.

Recently I decided to buy a Sonia close up kit for £15 on eBay. I have a digital SLR camera; a Sony A290, unfortunately due to cost reasons I don't have any extensions or extra lenses, thus I decided to grab what I thought might have been a cheap and useful bargain. However I tried the kit out today and whenever I take pictures of my bearded dragon the camera just WON'T take pictures. The sensors don't detect anything and therefore doesn't take any pictures.

Any suggestions to why this is? I have a gut feeling that I've either been stupid and bought something unnecessary or that I'm overlooking something easy.

It may be that the subject is too far away for focus to lock and in that case you may have to move closer. I suppose it could be that auto focus simply has a problem locking on, have you tried manual focus?

So, maybe it'd be a good test to select manual focus and see how close and how far away you can focus.

Just tried manual and you're exactly right. Manual works fine, takes the picture with no problems. Thankyou very much.

I have a similar set of these myself (Kood in my case) and they're cheap fun.

I hope you'll post some pictures soon? :)

Beware here. The reason its not taking the picture in Auto is because its not in focus. It will take the picture at any time whilst in manual focus.

Get it as close as you can manually and switch back to auto and see if it finds focus then. Make sure the light is very good too. There is nothing wrong with manually focusing, just make sure it is actually focused correctly.

Edit: don't need to know anymore, saw it on a different thread, however do you guys suggest using Flickr because I'm gonna post pictures for critique.
