Sony 500mm reflex lens

If I'm not mistaken thats a mirror lens which is a no no. As someone said to me on this website when I asked about it 'It will make a good door stop'

They are cheap and lightweight and you might even produce a decent image with one, but this is usually under optimum light conditions which are rare. Most mirror lenses suffer from rather poor / mediocre optical performance as most are f5.6 or f8. A lens like a 400/5.6 prime or even a 100-400mm zoom are usually better solution.

Thanks for the info

I just tried clicking on the link and my laptop froze!

Anyone tried this out?

Is it any good?

I have the Minolta version.
It's the only AF reflex & definitely a niche lens but it's also capable of taking good shots. Whoever said that it would make a good doorstop (& I'm sure that it would) didn't do it justice - I would put money on him never having used it. Michael Reichman likes it.
Like most mirrors it suffers from low contrast but that's easily corrected for in pp these days.
Also the "donut" bokeh whilst it can be intrusive can also be used to good effect - you learn the conditions that it's likely to appear in.

You might want to read http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/tutorials/mirror.html bearing in mind that the Minolta/Sony is better than the Tamron that he tested (I've had both).
