From my experience with teleconverters the performance of the 70-200mm f2.8 with a 2x TC won't be as good as the 70-400mm. So the question you should ask yourself is, what do I want to take photo's of, what focal range will I mainly be using, ie always at 400, zooming through the range, and do I need a faster lens for low light conditions. If you can answer these questions you'll find out which lens you want.

If you want reach and 200mm your better off getting the Minolta 200 2.8 prime lens and adding a 1.4 and 2 x tell converter and even 3 x if you want! The lens is that sharp it can take it! Take a trip over to dyxum lots of examples with this lens and 'silly' telecom better options!

what are you photographing? the 70400g2 does have crazy fast focus, but i dont know how it fairs in lower light

the 70200g2 is stupidly overpriced or was, so tamron or sigma 70200 with hsm or whatever would be a good choice. newest sigmas have os too which is a nice option

I've just bought a Tamron USD 70-200. A fair bit sharper than the Sony G1 and given there's no evidence to show that the optical formula has changed between G1 & G2 it was a no brainer.

it seems there are no reviews out there for the 70-200 g2 so its difficult to judge if the g2 is worth it price wise, it should be awesome for the asking price
