Hi, i was hoping someone could help me, I have a Sony A200 and i recently got an external flash, a Jessops 320AF as i was told that this flash would work ok, the problem is that it does not, it just does not flash when it should but i know its a working flash as im able to press the button and it works. Does anybody have any ideas? thanks

Hi, no it does not flash at all when it is on the camera hotshoe. And yes the built in flash does pop up when it is attached. I know some flashes are not dedicated to the cameras and you have to have all the settings on manual, just did not think it was the case for this one.

If the built in flash is popping up then it's not recognising that an external flash is on the hot shoe at all. Either the batteries are dead, or it's not compatable with the alpha.

I put new batteries in it and i can press the button on the flash to test fire it and it works fine, I guess its not compatable then. Are there and reasonably priced flashes that are fully compatible do you know?

I'm not 100% sure if the 320AF has a slave feature, but it sounds as if it does and it's switched on, as what you are describing is exactly what happens when when the flash is set to slave mode.

Try placing the flash near your camera and take a shot with the onboard flash and see if the 320AF goes off. If it does then that's your problem...

My mate got the Jessops flash as you described and it works fine on his A100 and my A350.Did they give you the right one for a Sony

Have held the flash next to my camera and it still does not go of. I did not actually buy it from Jessops i got it from ebay. The box is marked up as a 320AF for Minolta but the listing said its the same fitting for Sony and is compatably, im begining to think that this is not the case.

Make sure you have seated your flash fully/correctly on the camera.

I had a similar problem and it was simply down to the fact that I hadn't seated the flash correctly

Have pushed the flash on as far as it will go and it have clicked itself into place so im pretty sure its on right. Do you have the same flash?

If it fits your Sony then the fitting is correct, as Minolta and Sony use a different shoe to other manufacturers.
As someone else has used the same flash on a Sony, it does sound like it or your hot shoe could be broken

Do you mean the hotshoe on my camera or on the flash? I know that it is the case on some flashes where you cant have everthing running in automatic mode you have to set the camera and flash manually to work, was not sure if thas was the case or not.

I meant the camera hot shoe. I had a flash that only worked in manual when I had an a200 and I think it fired in most camera modes.

Can you set the flash to manual or is it only automatic ?

Tha back of the flash just has different programme setting on iw which you choose from a sliding switch as you move it along it changes the ISO.
