Sony A5000 vs Fuji X30 vs Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM1 ??

Just about to buy a fuji X30 and I have now seen a Sony A5000

I see the A5000 is really good in low light (big sensor) but unlike the fuji it has no viewfinder and its not very good (as far as I can find out) at macro


Anyone had both cameras - recommendations :thinking:

I can buy the Sony A5000 with 16-50 mm f/3.5-5.6 for less than the Fuji X30
 
The A5000 will be as good as any other DSLR with kit lens in terms of macro, as thats what you are basically buying. Treat your choice as a basic APSC DSLR (as it offers the same benefits) but much smaller vs a compact camera.
 
Hi John, I used an A5000 briefly before and it seemed to be a responsive good camera. However i found the menus were a bit too umm computery :)
I haven't used the X30 before but it's i suppose a completely different class of camera due to the fixed zoom and small sensor- around 9*7 compared to 24*16.

I feel a bit silly holding cameras away from my eye, so that would rule out the Sony for me. But your preferences may be different! Either is going to make a great image anyway, it's just your control of the DOF will be less with the Fuji!!
 
Yeah I want a viewfinder - I have a an Olympus EP1 now and its a good camera but I do also hate holding the camera away from me and the reason I started to look for another camera. It was just reviews of the A5000 especially in low light that has me thinking

I do love the look of the Fuji I suppose its just the worry of a smaller sensor - but I do want this to just take out for the day and shoot in jpeg - a holiday camera which can shoot good quality photos

No problem, FWIW Ive had an X10 and an A5000. Both are good cameras, the Fuji will produce better jpgs in good light as their in camera processing is nicer but the Sony sensor performance is obviously better in terms of DR, sharpness and ISO when it gets dim, you also have the advantage of the Sony having interchangeable lenses and using pretty much any cheap manual focus lens easily via adapter, which opens up a whole new world of cheap, fast primes!

I now have the A5100 and A6000 as my 'little' cameras.

Yeah I do like fuji jpeg processing - that link you sent me does show how good the A5000 sensor is - I just wish it has a viewfinder and I understand the screen is not that good either

Its not that bad tbh, remember what you are paying for a very good package.
 
Whats your budget as I can recommend other alternatives? Can I assume X30 money £300 ish?

How different is that from the panasonic lumix dmc-gf6 ?

Its a kit lens, so not really a dedicated macro lens, but again, an interchangeable system. For the money and spec though you wont beat it IMO. Compact vs large sensor system camera.
 
I've had an X10 since it came out a few years back and one of the reasons I bought it was for the viewfinder. In reality, I rarely use the viewfinder though as it's just so small, and on the X10 it has no shooting information (which I knew about, to be fair). I know the X30 is different in that it is now an EVF and has shooting information in it, but if you haven't tried one out then you might want to visit a shop just to ensure it meets your expectations!
 
Hmmm...... so at the moment its between the Panasonic and the Fuji....
