Sony A550 or A700 ?

After some advice from the Sony users out there. Father in law is looking to upgrade and is thinking about either a new A550 or a 2nd hand A700.

I've seen the rumors about the A560 & A580, which may well be out of his price range when they are launched and prices given, so thinking now might be a good time to buy the run out A550 model.

Any advice would be a great help, any pro's / con's of either ??
 
Rumour has it (and I dont like spreading rumours). Sony will be releasing a few HD vid cams this month.... since we are 1 week into August, it's worth waiting for whats going to be on offer.
