I'm looking to upgrade my a450.

My budget allows for either of the two cameras in the title.

So, which one do you think?

The only main difference is the SLR vs. SLT.
Faster fps on the a55.
Digital viewfinder on a55 (which I'm not sure about).

Any other thoughts?
 
from 450 to 580/55 is not worth I think, why dont just wait for the new A77? it will become available in Aug/Sep I think
 
i'd agree with rambits, unless you come across a bargain 2nd hand deal it wouldn't be worth the money upgrading. Once the A77 is released, if you don't go for that there'll be quite a few used A55/580 on the market from upgraders.

I would personally choose the A580 over the A55, I didn't like the EVF (tears when you pan).
 
Whichever doesnt have an EVF (so thats not the a55 or a77 then!).
 
The a77s EVF is supposed to be much improved over the a55. Time will tell.
I would wait for the a77 but if I had no choice I would go for the a580. There are too many compromises with the a55.
 
If everyone waited until the latest upgrade camera came out no one would buy anything :-) For under £500 the 580 is a bargain. I'd get that over the A55 as if you have sigma glass then the A55 will end up costing you more as they would all need to be modded. Some are done free but older lenses would cost between £40 and £70 each and some can't be modded at all. If you don't have a proof of purchase you might have to pay for the lenses still within warranty.
