Sony A65 KIt lens alternative

Thinking of a Sony A65 but have read that the standard kit lens will not do the camera justice. Can anyone recomend a similar decent lens that won't break the bank. Basically buy the body only and then lens.

what's your budget?
the Tamron 17-50/2.8 (~£250) is an improvement, the Sony 16-50/2.8 is even better but a lot dearer.
Sigma 17-70 is another <£300 possibility.
 
Thanks guys, the Tamron was on the short list.But will have a look at the other two. The idea was to move into a DSLR. Read the reviews on the Sony, liked what I saw, but reckoned that the standard kit lens would have dragged the camera down. Currently have Sony DSC H1, HX5V for the point and shoot, Minolta A5 and old but gold Yashica FX3.All owned from new.Also have an Agfa Silette sitting on a shelf bought 50 yrs ago.Ta
 
Don't under estimate the Sony SAM 18-55mm. Its got excellent edge to edge sharpness throughout the range and gives superb bokeh.

Alot of people dismiss it because its a 'kit lens' but its probably the best one available currently and mine rarely left my A550 because of the size & weight even though I had a Tamron 17-50mm.
 
Not exactly cheap and not f2.8 like the Tamron or Sony 16-50 but the Sony 16-105 is another option. Great walk about lens, very good center sharpness (nearly as good as the Sony 16-80CZ) although somewhat soft edges wide and full tele but not really to noticable at f5.6/8.
