Sony A700 flash

Am I correct in thinking that a flash unit which is compatible with a Minolta 7000 camera, will be compatible with my A700, or is it not that simple?
Is there a problem with the electrical contacts/polarity?

I can't say for every flash out there, but the "Cobra" flash I had with my 7000i worked on my a300 when I had that. Didn't try it on the a700.

It might work but the ttl might not be accurate. I've got a Metz MZ54 which I got for my KM5D, when I bought my A700 I had to send the base unit off to be reprogrammed for the newer protocols of the A700 software. In the end I shouldn't have bothered because ttl flash always over exposes and it only works accurately when the flash is in A mode.

What model is the flash and what is the trigger voltage?

As far as Minolta flashes go, only the 2800AF, 3600HS D, and the 5600HS D are compatible. I doubt any 3rd party from that era are compatible although they may work but it will be full power always unless you shoot totally in manual (and if the trigger voltage is to high it will fry the camera or at least the flash subsystem).
