I have put my Sigma 150-500mm f6.3 apo lens up for sale, presently used on ,y Sony Alpha 580

I have been contacted by a guy ( not this forum) who is interested in buying at less than the asking price, BUT claims this lens would need to be returned to Sigma for some kind of modification to enable it to be used on his Sony A77 :shrug:

Anyone on here know what that Modification would be???

I see they offer Free Firmware to rectify this problem- so Im gussing the new owner can just download it??

When I contacted Sigma I think they wanted a proof of purchase for the SLT. I can't remember whether they wanted a proof of purchase for the lens too. If it is a paid for mod (mine would have been) then they don't need anything.

I'd probably give Sigma a call as they're pretty helpful and tell them the situation.
 
i would get it done your self les, contact them and they will aarrange collection at there cost and send it back at there cost, so it wont cost you nothing should take a couple weeks, i had to send my 50-500mm os back when it come out as they had a duff af motor.
and this should be done free regardles of the age of the lens as its only been out not that long (so should be done under the fit for purpose act)
you should not need proof of the slt or proof of purchase of an slt) as you could buy one 2nd hand.

The lens is only 3 months old I do have the Original Box , warranty card and receipt the problem seems to be it will not auto focus using the a77 according to the Sony web site

This guy want me to send it to Sigma, but what if during the meantime he changes his mind about buying it, will the lens still operate on my 580 after the upgrade?

I have sent an e mail Sigma UK and await a response - probably in the new year :D

Maybe I should just keep it and buy a 1.4 TC to give it more legs - even though it restricts the lens to Manual focusing only

what are you expecting sony to do, they wont do nothing the problem is with sigma, the lens has to go back to sigma for the upgrade chip.

it'll still work on your A580 after the upgrade but you might want to try getting a deposit from your prospective purchaser to keep him committed.

As the above posts, I'd speak to Sigma, return it and have it sorted out, especially as it's free from Sigma...

Even if this guy doesn't buy it, you will be able to sell it on, advertising the upgrade has been done, taking a lot of the worry / hassle out from a new propsective buyer
