Hi everyone, for about 1 year now I have had this kit shooting Motorsport mostly. I just do not think this lens is up to the Job and wondered if it is just me?

I have heard great things about the lens with such camera as a Canon, but with a Sony I just do not think it is up to scratch.

Is there anything good settings for say motorsport with this lens? or speeds this lens works well at?

Any information related to my kit and motorsport will be grately appreciated.

Thanks.

Seen a few from your gallery, nice work. In what aspect does this lens lets you down? Focus speed, picture quality?

Failing that, the Sony 70-300 G will do you, as it has the faster ring focus motor. If you dont need the 200-300 range you'll have a choice of different 70-200 2.8 lenses to choose from.

Thanks :) I think its Picture quality and speed of focus or even just managing to focus in low lights (Not so much of a problem in motorsport) I look at the photos and don't go wow, the colours, sharpness. But I guess these will come with practice and probably a better camera. Im not sure. I really need to see a comparison of the same kit and motorsport to see what it can really do when worked well. Thanks.

um perhaps you're just doubting yourself? If I think a picture needs a bit sharper or more colour I post process it...

The wonder of post processing is there for those shots that didn't get it quite right on the camera. Purists will insist that there is no need to post process if you 'do it right' but ehhh leave them to it :P

You maybe right, but it is always dissapointing after a race meeting of hard shooting to find virtually all of them are rubbish, then I start to wonder after a few of the same meetings pass and they are still same wheather it is me? or the kit.

Depends what you mean by rubbish, I looked in flickr and the pics look great, lovely colours in them and sharp

Mallory park looked like a lovely day, perfect for the camera.

Thanks, it means alot when people say that. That sunny day was with my 18-70mm lens, I need a sunny day like that with my Sigma!

I feel another year to get used to it and get my settings sorted should be fine.

Its also practice I need as last year was my first DSLR year :)

I reckon all this is me wanting the 'perfect' photo.

Thanks guys.

When you say rubbish? Is it composition? Colour? or Sharpness? Is the shutter response lagged between when you wanted to capture when u pressed the shutter? Way round maybe be to switch to manual focus and pre focus for an area and shoot away when the subject is in frame.

If most of the rubbish pics are blurred cos of motion then you'll need a higher shutter speed, I've noticed that you do use quite a small aperture. At the focal length your using, say 100mm and distance to subject say 20 metres, the depth of field is pretty large even at f8, so you could consider trading aperture for a stop of ISO and some shutter.
