Who has one and what do you think to it?
 
I started with an A200, now have an A700, very happy with them.

There are a few dedicated forums for Sony / Minolta users which would be a good place to find out more if you had detailed questions on specific models.
 
I have the 390 and its a very capable camera for the price :D shame Im not that good a photographer :bang:

I've had a 200 for a few years and ... I'm not gentle with it... and it's been brill and sturdy

Got the A33 SLT recently which is slightly smaller - enjoying it :)

Love the Sony 75-300 lens but it's a bit heavy!

I'm toting with the idea of upgrading from my Sony A200...
 
i have an a390 and i'm looking to upgrade too, but i don't know whether to stay with sony (a700 probably) or to jump ship to canon/nikon. it's really frying my head to be honest.

if you do upgrade look to at least the 5xx series cameras, the 3xx's all have the same ccd sensor as the 1xx and 2xx series models. it's great at low iso settings but even with noise reduction applied anything above iso 800 is pretty grim to be honest.
 
I've got a Sony A200, (upgraded from a Nikon Bridge). I've been using it for nearly 2 years now in all kind of enviroments (from the comfort of my living room to nearly being dropped overboard in a rough South Atlantic) and other than being seriously disapointed by high ISO performance I love it to bits.

it sucks doesn't it. i was looking at nikon d200's and all was looking well untill i saw they have a ccd sensor too. boooo!

So its the sensor type and not software that causes the poor performance?

Useful to know because as the time comes to upgrade I'd like to stick with Sony, not through any brand loyalty its just i've not got a collection of Sony A lenses
 
The Sony a450, a500, a550, a560, a580, SLT-A33 and SLT-A55 all use the latest CMOS sensors and therefore better high ISO performance (although DXOMark rate the A33 down a bit).

One word of warning though, the a450, a500 and a550 have a base ISO of 200, which I found noisier than ISO 100 on the a100 and a200.
 
Started out with a rarely used Sony A700 and now using a Sony A580.

I prefer the A580 by a mile - faster focusing and better ISO performance.

Also, the A580 body is now available for around £489! Astounding price.

Still on a learning curve with my a700, but no complaints so far. As Fabs says "built like a tank".

ah right, i thought it was towards the end of production but wasn't sure. did it improve the camera noticably? i've been trawling the flickr groups and as much as i've been looking towards canikon i keep getting drawn to the a700. i hate being so indecisive goddammit

It improved the ISO performance greatly and also allowed for the in camera noise reduction to be switched off.

The A700 is a significantly better camera than the A200 (which was pretty good for the price ) - but it is also significantly bigger and heavier, which might be either a good or bad thing, depending on personal preference.
 
I started with a A350, moved to the A500 then the A700 and i also recently got a NEX3

The older sony models (i.e. A200/350) weren't great with high ISO, but also the jpeg engines were a bit behind the likes of canikon (not much of an issue if you shot RAW and process them via Lightroom).

The newer models from the A500 onward and in particular the A580 are excellent for high ISO (the nikon d7000 and pentax k5 use the A580 sensor).

All in all the sony cameras offer great value for money on the entry/advanced entry models. It's main drawback is sony have focused on lower end models thus the upgrade path (body wise) isn't complete.
