Hi all, just bought a 32" Bravia for our bedroom and it come internet ready with a USB slot to accept a wifi adapter. Does anyone know if i have to use a Sony adapter or can i use any brand? The hand book doesnt make it clear.

Are you sure the USB port will work with a USB WIFI dongle?

USB on TV is typically for displaying pictures, some video formats (e.g. AVI, MPEG2) and music, whilst also allowing the firmware to be upgraded easily.

Internet ready TV's usually have a LAN adapter or built-in WIFI.

Can you quote the product number?

I've just been through exactly this.

Being Sony, you probably realise what the answer is already.......

It will only recognise the UWABR100 @ £80 odd.

Given the cost of it, and the fact that the Bravias have ethernet ports, I'm more tempted to head in the direction of a pair of 200Mbps AV PowerLine/HomePlugs as a solution.

There are various threads on AV forums on this (example here) and the consensus seems to be that they don't - Sony only. May be different for your model of course, but knowing Sony it's unlikely.

Sony only... thats what i thought. The powerline solution needs looking into I think.

You get ethernet to wireless adapters.

What model TV is it Dave. I'm looking at going for a 32" EX403 for my living room. Any comments you have would be appreciated!

If you can stretch the budget, have a look at either the 32EX503 or the slightly more modern 32EX603; the only difference is that the latter is backlit.

Both of these have built in Freeview HD tuners, meaning that you can receive HD through the aerial, as opposed to needing a separate box.

Its teh 32EX403, i'm very impressed with it so far. Good picture quality and sound.

Good good, thats all I needed to hear.

I'm not buying right this minute so the 503 is a possibility......Amazon are out of stock at the moment. I'll probably wait and see when it comes back. Its about £80 more expensive but could be worth it.
Even more so when I'd like to (occassionally) play my PS3 on it and don't want ghosting etc.

Marks & Sparks have the 32EX403 on offer 'today only'with 5 year warranty for £299 delivered.

My wife is upstairs watching ours as I type.

I am quite taken with it though I would like to get some sort of calibration sorted out as I want to keep fiddling with screen settings.

Best feature so far has been the display of still images via a USB stick.

Make sure all the images are 1980*1080 pixels max and they look stunning.

Lack of explanation of the features and settings is a bit frustrating (built in i-manual is next to useless) but on the whole very pleased with it, especially with 5 year warranty and VAT cashback.

HTH

I've ordered a couple of powerline network adapters to get in on the net, £45 from Amazon.

Had the same set for a few months now, well pleased with it. I use the ethernet port to connect to my router, did try a couple of usb wifi dongles but as said above, only the Sony will work.
