It arrived on Tuesday, I took one look at the Mini USB door and thought ‘no-way’….not for that price.

I packed it back up into it’s box and organised for collection on Friday.

However, since Tuesday it’s been constantly at the back of my mind…..It’s SUCH a beautiful thing.

So this morning I unpacked it, charged it up via ‘that door’, and tried it out.

It’s gorgeous, solid, silky smooth positive controls, it oozes quality and with truly excellent IQ.

And now this is the good part….I’ve ordered an external charger and I’ll never have to open ‘that door’ ever again.

Closed it looks fine and blends in beautifully with the rest of the body.

I’ve also ordered a Sony hard case for it.

It stays.

So…..I can change me mind, can’t I…..That’s about par for the coarse for me.

UPDATE.

The order for the hard case has been cancelled and a Sony soft case ordered in it's place....£65 or £8.05..No brainer really.

The Sony charger I have since found out from a guy who bought one will not work with the RX100 battery, although a guy on 'dpreview' said it would.
I have two coming, the Sony and an aftermarket, one ought to work, one or both go back.

I went out yesterday to try the camera out, and yes I'll be keeping it, it's an absolute 'JOY'.....All cameras should be made this way.

The shots below are OOC JPEG's with minimal sharpening after resizing.

Camrea settings, basically as it came out of the box.

AUTO ISO
JPG...large, fine.
Creative style.......Standard, no tweeking.

There have been reports of images not being up to scratch, especially outdoors.

I found the images fine, dull scene...dull image, bright scene...bright image.

I'll have to play around with 'Creative Style' setting.

Here's one of my son watching tv. ISO 3200 f4.9

My 450d only goes to ISO 1600 and it's pretty grainy at that.

I'm not so happy with some outdoor, daylight shots i've taken though. They were a bit dull and lacking contrast compared to the Canon s100.

I use FastStone image viewer for editing and with the Canon I didn't have to add any or much contrast boost or much sharpening, but I do with the Sony.

It's only early days yet so could be settings or me that's at fault (must read the manual). Or perhaps the light wasn't as good. Without using them side-by-side it's difficult to tell.

I was also a little disappointed with my outdoor shots as well,my wife`s samsung bridge camera took better snaps than the r100. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jones_adrian/sets/72157631530177695/
 
Is it true that the original batches of the camera were made in Japan but now they are made in China?

Thanks for that Andy...I may welll do that. This thread is a bit lacking in the old image department so come on get snapping..:D Are you all still enjoying it?..Any major niggles at all?..
 
Stuart a lot better now iam used to it, close up can be an issue with focus but i find changing the aperture really helps. Shooting in raw has made a big difference as well for processing so overall very happy with it. just need to get a case now,more money. :-)

:lol:Not at all mate...but my sons football season has started and I dont have a telephoto at present.As my d90 didnt sell decided to go for new lens first,will still probably get a sony but need to save up again:lol:

Thanks for the links dave,i have just ordered the hama sorento managed to grab the last one on amazon. Looks like it should fit according to the love cases website. Any ideas mabe for the hard case yet?

Neither of the cases or the charger have arrived yet, but they have been despatched.

I'll keep you informed.
 
Picked up mine today, first impressions very positive. Ordered the Richard Franiec grip a I think it'll improve the handling (which isn't bad but could be better).

I'll report back with more feedback in a few days :)

I must say it looks very neat and I was tempted.

I'm having no trouble with the handling, having used a miniscule Ixus 100IS for years.

And why buy a tiny camera only to make it bigger.

Just picked one up...had a play with a friend's one last week and was blown away. Off to Vietnam/Cambodia/Thailand for a few weeks tomorrow so it's gonna get a good workout :)
 
Just a quick question on this camera, without having to read the whole thread: How is the ISO performance? say, up to 3200?

Any issues with RAW files from it? compatibility with LR4? DO you all shoot RAW + process,like you would with a Dslr, or Jpeg, like with a compact?

Just wondering and pondering on this model.
 
I cant comment on performance up to 3200,but iam going to use it tomorrow night at a beer festival so may have some answers then on that.

The release candidate for Lightroom 4.2 supports the raw files from the rx100, currently iam using cs6 and always process using the raw files. I have also used DxO Optics without any issues.

I tend to shoot a few jpegs,usually to try out the various effects. HDR,Toy camera,miniature etc...

ISO 3200 snapped in Hanoi the other night, shot JPEG as I'm away for a few weeks and want to make storage last. The hand-held twilight mode is unbelievable, it takes a series of shots quickly and merges them. I was shooting complete darkness, just moonlight, very extreme and the results are smeary and not sharp in those conditions, but perfectly OK for holiday snaps
 
I ordered my RX100 on Saturday but will only get it maybe Monday next week. I don't think I'll regret selling my D7000 to get this. My D7000 was starting to become a bit of an inconvenience to lug around at horse race meetings especially if the place is busy.

Also, I've just ordered a Crumpler Muffin Top 90 for £4.79 delivered. I'm hoping it'll be a decent fit for the RX100. I didn't fancy spending £50 on the Sony case and not being able to get access to the battery and card slots quickly.
 
Day 6 of trip and my D5100 is still buried at the bottom of my rucksack. I will likely be selling it when I get back.
