hi, just wondering what peoples views are on the 30mm macro lens sony make, is it anygood for general macro lens or is it better to wait and save for a 90mm macro?

Thanks

i was going to get this lens, not mainly for macro but for wider shots and wider portraits. the macro capability is only good for product shots and shooting coins, still objects etc, but if you want to shoot bugs then you should get a longer macro lens like you say the tamron 90mm f2.8 macro.

Thanks for the advlice. The thing that is pulling me towards the sony 30mm aposed to the tamron 90mm is the price. As i am mainly going to be photography plants etc indoors would the 30mm be fine for this. Also could I use it for portrait work aswell?

Thanks

I've got it and love it, agreed if you are going for bugs etc longer would be better. It's sharp wide open and very sharp at f4 upwards and since I've had it it's been on the camera pretty much all the time. I prefer the length over my 50mm f1.7 which to be honest I'm thinking about getting rid of as it dosent get used anymore

Have you been before? I posted on here last week about a lastolite background there and people seemed to think there was only really Jacobs there trading?

i went there last year and loads of people trade, from local independent businesses to big retail chains like calumet and jacobs. although more than half of it is all the printing companies and album makers but all the big brands are there and theres mini seminars if you look around.

at the sony stand last year they had professionals talking about tips, tricks and techniques they use to capture there images such as, portraiture, wildlife and landscapes. you can even play with the sony equipment and theres a little desk with all the lenses and flashguns and if you can ask if you can try out a lens they'll let you have a go.

im definitely going this year and might consider a 30mm f2.8 macro myself and then when i can afford it i will go with the tamron 90mm f2.8 macro because it is really good for portraits.
